MITCHELL BAXTER FROM BANBURY AND LEVENMOUTH SPARED JAIL FOR CHILD SEX IMAGE DOWNLOADS
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Banbury and Levenmouth, Mitchell Baxter, a 51-year-old man, narrowly avoided immediate imprisonment after admitting to multiple serious charges related to the possession of indecent images, including those involving very young children.The court proceedings, held at Oxford Crown Court, revealed disturbing details about Baxter's extensive online activities and the nature of his offenses.
According to court records, Baxter’s criminal behavior was uncovered following a police raid on his residence on April 28, 2014.
Authorities seized a silver Dell laptop, a Mono tablet, and a memory card during the operation, which was part of a broader crackdown on online child exploitation.
Forensic analysis of these devices uncovered a horrifying collection of illegal material, including 23 images and videos classified as lower category C, 262 of upper category B, and a staggering 101 of the most extreme Category A content involving very young children.
The investigation revealed that Baxter had used peer-to-peer file-sharing software to distribute this illicit material.
Search terms such as ‘pre-teen hardcore,’ ‘incest,’ and ‘Lolita’ were found in his browsing history, indicating a disturbing interest in very young victims.
Additionally, Baxter had installed software designed to permanently erase his browsing history, known as C-Cleaner, although experts could not confirm whether he had used it to delete any of the illegal images.
The police analysis determined that these offenses occurred between 2012 and 2014.
The court heard that Baxter’s addiction to extreme pornography began during his teenage years, with a troubling origin story linked to witnessing his father working in an abattoir.
Over time, his consumption escalated from ‘video nasties’ to more extreme online content, driven by a desire for ‘the shock,’ as described during the sentencing.
During the hearing, Judge Zoe Smith addressed the severity of the crimes, stating, “The children were young, seven and eight years of age.
They were moving images and I think a sharing platform as well was used.
These are real children in these pictures subjected to nothing less than actual torture.” Mitchell Baxter was sentenced to a 12-month prison term for possessing Category A images, six months for Category B, and three months for Category C, with all sentences to run concurrently.
However, the jail term was suspended for two years, meaning Baxter will not serve time unless he commits further offenses within that period.
Additionally, he was handed a community order lasting 24 months, which includes a supervision requirement of 15 days and supervised activity.
He was also ordered to pay court costs of £500.
Furthermore, Baxter will remain on the sex offenders register for the next decade, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing monitoring required to protect the community from potential future offenses.
