Michael Stevens, aged 32, from Watson Road, was sentenced to a punitive jail term of 16 years for perpetrating repeated sexual abuse against two young children.
His arrest was prompted after one of his victims courageously stepped forward to report the abuse, leading to an extensive police investigation.
During a search of his residence, multiple electronic devices were confiscated which subsequently uncovered evidence of a second victim.
Stevens admitted to multiple serious charges at Sheffield Crown Court, including five counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, one count of raping a child under 13, eight counts of producing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children, voyeurism, and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
As part of his sentence, he is also mandated to spend an additional year on licence post-release, and has been subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Restriction Order to protect his victims.
Detective Constable Wendy Howe, speaking for South Yorkshire Police, praised the bravery of the young girls who came forward, emphasizing that their support was instrumental in ensuring the offender’s incarceration.
Howe stated, “Thanks to the bravery of the girls, Stevens will now serve the next 17 years behind bars.
The sexual abuse inflicted on his victims will leave lasting damage, but I sincerely hope this verdict allows them to begin the process of healing.
We are pleased to have secured such a long sentence and removed a dangerous individual from our streets.” The case highlights the importance of speaking out against abuse, with authorities stressing the importance of supporting victims and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
