MAN JAILED AFTER TERRIFYING FOUR-HOUR ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A man accused of a brutal four-hour campaign of assault and stalking against his partner has received a 16-month prison sentence.Michael Simms, aged 43 and residing at Barn Court in Haverfordwest, appeared before Swansea Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, three counts of assault by beating, and stalking that instilled fear of violence.
The court was informed of Simms’ extensive history of domestic violence, with police reports reaching nearly 30 within a single year.
On August 24, Simms attended a friend’s house uninvited, initiating a prolonged attack on his partner.
During this assault, he pressed a lit cigarette into her cheek, struck her repeatedly in the face, and targeted her again when she declined to give him a cigarette.
When authorities arrived, they found the woman with a burn mark on her face and swelling around her eye.
Despite these injuries, Simms denied harming her, asserting that he was acting in self-defense due to his life being threatened.
It was also revealed that Simms had 44 prior convictions involving 69 offenses, including violence directed at a pregnant former partner.
Judge Catherine Richards sentenced Simms to 16 months behind bars and described his actions as part of a “persistent and frightening pattern of abuse.” Furthermore, a domestic violence protection order had been issued against him just ten days before the incident.
