RAPIST 'OBSESSED WITH SEX' JAILED AFTER ADMITTING 'ABHORRENT' SEXUAL ATTACKS
A MAN has been jailed for a series of rapes and sexual attacks in Haverfordwest.Talha Ahmadzai, 33, committed “a catalogue of abhorrent offending of the upmost seriousness” against three victims in February last year.
Ahmadzai assaulted a woman and raped her.
He was also charged with orally raping a boy and attempting to rape a young girl, as well as causing the girl to watch sexual activity.
Prosecutor Thomas Scapens told Swansea Crown Court the offences came to light after the woman made disclosures over what had happened to her, and the police were contacted.
Ahmadzai was arrested on February 20 last year, and in interview claimed to police that he had consensual sex with the woman.
He initially denied the offences and was remanded into custody, but was then hospitalised due to a deterioration in his mental health.
Having received treatment, he returned to court and admitted the offences.
Mr Scapens said Ahmadzai was “obsessed with sex” and “masturbated every hour he was awake whilst watching pornography”.
The court heard he had previously been hospitalised in Afghanistan due to his mental health issues and had been given medication – which he had stopped taking at the time of committing the offences.
David Singh, in mitigation, told the court that Ahmadzai, of Haverfordwest, was previously of clean character and had entered the UK from Afghanistan as a refugee.
“It’s conceded that these are appalling offences of the very worst type,” he said.
“It’s conceded a lengthy term of imprisonment is inevitable.
He had the good sense, following treatment, to enter those guilty pleas.
His descent into these appalling offences appears to have followed a severe psychotic episode.
I concede that the mitigation is limited in a case of this nature.” Judge Huw Rees said there was “no mitigation” for the “catalogue of abhorrent offending” Ahmadzai had committed.
He added that the defendant’s “entrenched” views around sex were concerning.
Ahmadzai was sentenced to a total of 21 years and seven months, made up of 19 years and seven months in custody and two years extended licence.
He will serve two-thirds of the custodial sentence before the parole board can consider whether he is safe to be released.
The defendant must register as a sex offender for life and the victims were each granted life-long restraining orders against him.
