MILFORD HAVEN MAN SENTENCED FOR STALKING VICTIM
A man named Jamie Norman, aged 39 from Milford Haven, carried out an extended and concerning stalking campaign against a woman.Over a span of four weeks, Norman sent her around 80 Facebook messages, with most sent during a single day.
He also tried to contact her friends to ask if he should pursue her and told her mother that he planned to marry her.
The victim reported that Norman had knocked on every door of her housing estate in Haverfordwest and visited residences during early May 28.
Norman himself contacted the police to complain that her friends were stopping her from communicating with him.
Further investigations found that Norman had contacted her friends and made threatening statements, revealing obsessive and stalking behaviors that included sexual undertones and implicit threats.
He also made a second call claiming he had additional details about her address and that he would keep knocking on doors until he found her.
Due to the nature and seriousness of his actions, Norman was promptly arrested.
Authorities determined that his conduct demonstrated a high degree of obsession, consistent with the four typical stalking behaviors: fixated, obsessed, unwanted, and persistent.
A charge of stalking causing serious alarm or distress was duly approved.
Norman pleaded guilty to the offence and appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates' Court on June 18, where he was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
He was also instructed to perform 250 hours of community service and complete a rehabilitation requirement.
Additionally, he was barred from contacting the victim directly or indirectly for five years.
Detective Gmerek of Dyfed-Powys Police highlighted the distress stalking causes victims and praised her for her bravery in reporting the incident.
