RUNCORN MAN AVOIDS JAIL FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGE COLLECTION
A PERVERT who was caught with a sickening stash of hundreds of child abuse images has been spared being sent to jail.
Police discovered that Michael Kelsey possessed a collection of disturbing photographs depicting children being sexually abused.
The 37-year-old from The Croft in Runcorn pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of children and one of possessing them.
He appeared at Chester Crown Court on October 19 but was told he would not be sentenced to custody at that time.
Prosecutor Anna Price provided details that police found the images in his collection, which had been accumulated over more than five years from September 2016 to late November last year.
The total number of images was 684, with 22 classified as category B, indicating the second most severe level of indecency, and the remaining 662 as category C.
Judge Michael Leeming sentenced Kelsey to a two-year community order, which includes participation in the horizon sexual offence prevention programme, 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and 150 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, the court mandated that he abide by sex offender notification and registration requirements for five years, along with a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
The court also approved an order to seize property confiscated by police and ordered him to pay £420 in court costs and a £60 surcharge to fund victim services.
