2009: MICHAEL HOLLINS JAILED FOR 14 YEARS
A 40-year-old entrepreneur with a reputation for womanising was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years’ imprisonment after attempting to run down his wife with his Land Rover to claim a £500,000 life insurance benefit.Michael Hollins, facing financial ruin from a string of failed businesses, plotted to murder his wife so he could pursue relationships with other women.
At Worcester Crown Court, Judge Alistair McCreath described Hollins’s actions as a “truly wicked crime” and remarked on his subsequent attempts to pretend he was a concerned husband.
The judge noted that if Hollins had succeeded in killing his wife, he would have been sentenced to 28 years.
Instead, he must serve at least 14 years before he can seek release.
