2007: MAN JAILED FOR ATTACKING HIS GIRLFRIEND
2007: A man who physically assaulted his girlfriend following an argument in a pub has been sentenced to 27 months in prison.Michael Flaherty, aged 23 and residing on Devonshire Road in Atherton, committed two assaults against Claire Tunney on September 28 of the previous year, as reported by Liverpool Crown Court.
The incident began with an altercation inside a pub, after which Miss Tunney left and decided to walk home to Flaherty's residence.
He caught up with her in the street, pushed her to the ground, and then forcefully dragged her back to his flat by her hair.
According to prosecutor Henry Riding, Miss Tunney tried to escape to the bedroom to get away from Flaherty.
Two of his friends arrived at the scene, and Flaherty apologized, promising it would not happen again.
Later, he and the group moved to the Last Orders pub, where Flaherty was seen playing pool.
While there, Miss Tunney knew a few men who approached her and engaged in conversation.
One of them hugged her, which made Flaherty look on with anger.
Eventually, they left the pub, and during the walk back to his flat, Flaherty grabbed her by the hair and began hitting her.
Mr.
Riding stated that he dragged her inside the flat and assaulted her face and head with punches and slaps.
Flaherty admitted to two assault charges and a charge of possessing cannabis.
