WIGAN MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND THREATENING VIOLENCE
Marvin King, 33 years old and a resident of Everest Road in Wigan, was convicted following an assault on his girlfriend during a violent episode. The court heard that he began the relationship in August 2024 and initially showed positive behavior.
However, as time went on, King’s behavior became more jealous and controlling.
In October 2024, he took her phone, accused her of cheating, and when she attempted to retrieve her device, he grabbed her by the throat and strangled her, causing her to gasp for air.
He also spat in her face.
Later, King threatened to kill her dog with a kitchen knife, only stopping when she agreed to remove men from her social media accounts.
The victim tried to leave with her dog but was stopped twice at the door by King.
The assault persisted until she consented to further social media control, after which police were called the following day.
After a three-day trial, King was convicted of intentional strangulation, section 39 assault, and threats of criminal damage.
He was sentenced to two years in prison and issued a four-year restraining order to protect his former partner.
Police Constable Craig Simmonds stated that the order should help reassure the victim and reinforced that domestic abuse is unacceptable and should never be tolerated in silence.
