ATHERTON OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ASSAULT
A man named Jordan Hook, aged 29, who was involved in a domestic relationship during most of 2024, has been handed a prison sentence for his violent and controlling conduct.Court evidence indicated that Hook assaulted his partner, resulting in injuries such as a broken wrist and a fractured finger, and also threw her down stairs on multiple occasions.
He supervised her clothing choices and called her derogatory names.
The sentencing took place via video at Bolton Crown Court on May 21.
Prosecutors revealed police had been called around nine or ten times during their relationship due to violence.
The woman sustained injuries including a shattered finger and wrist injuries.
Hook's controlling behavior extended to forbidding her from socializing or choosing her attire.
In one incident, he climbed through her window and shattered a 55-inch television, causing approximately £150 in damages.
A failed attempt to end the relationship on December 7 saw Hook follow her, verbally abuse her, and force her to remove her clothes.
He then threatened to damage her home, smashing a window and trying to enter her property while issuing threats.
He was arrested the next day after dismissing the incident as 'bulls**t' and was released on bail with a condition not to contact her.
Nonetheless, on December 27, Hook returned to her house, became angry, threw objects at her, smashed a glass table, and strangled her for around a minute.
He also attempted to attack her with a sharp object, which cut her foot.
Police recovered and detained him that same day.
The victim reported feelings of depression, loneliness, fear, and worthlessness.
Hook admitted guilt to multiple charges, including grievous bodily harm, controlling behavior, actual bodily harm, strangulation, property damage, threats to damage property, and burglary.
He had 13 previous convictions for 21 offences, chiefly domestic violence.
The court sentenced him to 27 months imprisonment and issued a five-year restraining order.
His defense highlighted his efforts to improve himself academically during remand, including literacy improvement.
The judge underscored the seriousness of his violent acts and the impact on his victim, noting the injuries inflicted and the pattern of abusive behavior.
