MICHAEL BOURN FROM WISBECH JAILED FOR SEXUAL CHAT AND BURGLARIES AT LOCAL HOSPITAL

In a case that has shocked the community of Wisbech, Michael Bourn, aged 27, has been sentenced to over nine years in prison following a series of serious criminal activities, including burglary, attempted burglary, theft, and disturbing allegations of child sexual exploitation. The incidents, which spanned from May 2021 to June 2022, involved multiple break-ins at North Cambridgeshire Hospital in Wisbech, as well as disturbing online behavior involving a minor.

According to court records, Bourn pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary, one count of attempted burglary, and theft of a motor vehicle. Additionally, he admitted to attempting to engage in sexual activity with a girl he believed to be 14 years old, as well as attempting to incite her to engage in sexual acts. He also faced charges of robbery related to the theft of a handbag on June 22 of the previous year.

The court heard that Bourn had engaged in sexually explicit conversations and sent explicit images to someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl via social media. These disturbing exchanges formed part of the evidence that led to his conviction.

The criminal activities at North Cambridgeshire Hospital in Wisbech began on May 28 last year, when Bourn was captured on CCTV footage. During this incident, a tradesman working on the hospital’s roof returned to his van and discovered that approximately £900 worth of power tools had been stolen. The CCTV footage provided a clear image of the suspect’s face, enabling authorities to identify Bourn.

Less than a week later, Bourn returned to the hospital premises and committed another theft, this time stealing a purse, a mobile phone, and car keys from a worker who had left her belongings in an area not typically accessible to the public. When she checked her car outside, she found it had been stolen. CCTV footage again captured Bourn in the act of stealing the vehicle.

In the days that followed, Bourn made additional visits to the hospital, during which he stole a dongle and some cash. On one occasion, a night shift worker attending to an elderly patient noticed Bourn attempting to remove a window from an office in an apparent effort to gain entry. The worker disturbed him, causing Bourn to flee the scene. The window was found to be completely removed, and CCTV footage of the incident was recovered for evidence.

On March 9, at Peterborough Crown Court, Bourn was sentenced to a total of nine years and one month in prison for his crimes. The case has left a lasting impact on the local community, highlighting the serious nature of his offenses and the need for vigilant security measures at public institutions in Wisbech.
