MAN SENTENCED TO TWO AND A HALF YEARS IN PRISON FOR CONTROLLING OR COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
A 37-year-old man from Farnborough has been given a sentence of two years and six months in prison after admitting to multiple charges including controlling or coercive behaviour, deliberate strangulation, and assault causing actual bodily harm against a woman aged 38.Matthew Roberts, residing on McNaughton Close in Farnborough, pleaded guilty to engaging in controlling or coercive actions within an intimate relationship, as well as committing intentional strangulation and assault resulting in bodily harm.
His court appearance took place at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday, 23 February.
The following day, Tuesday, 5 May, he was sentenced to two and a half years behind bars.
The offences occurred over nearly a year, from Wednesday, 30 November 2022, to Friday, 17 November 2023, during which the woman endured repeated interrogations, assaults, and both physical and verbal abuse.
Roberts was detained by police on Friday, 17 November 2023, leading to a comprehensive investigation that culminated in charges of controlling coercive behaviour, actual bodily harm, and intentional strangulation.
