NORFOLK RAPIST WHO ABUSED VICTIM OVER FOUR YEARS HID HER UNDERWEAR WHEN OFFICERS CAME TO ARREST HIM
A man convicted of sexual assault has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after attempting to conceal evidence during his arrest.
The offender, Matthew Richardson, was found guilty of three counts of rape and one sexual assault committed in the Weeting area of Norfolk between 2020 and 2024.
The police intervened in April 2024 after the victim confided in a friend about the abuse.
During the arrest, Richardson, residing on St Edmund Road in Weeting, tried to hide the victim’s underwear, which he had kept as evidence.
In court, the victim expressed how the abuse has impacted her mental health, stating she struggles with trust and self-doubt.
She also shared her feelings of relief and fear upon speaking out and revealed her plans to begin therapy to help her heal.
Additionally, Richardson has been placed on an indefinite sex offenders register and issued a restraining order that forbids him from contacting the victim for two decades.
Detective Constable Kellie D'Costa from Norfolk Constabulary praised the victim’s courage in coming forward and expressed hope that others will feel encouraged to report similar incidents.
