MAN TWICE STAMPED ON EX-PARTNER’S HEAD

2018.

A woman believed she was on the verge of death after her former partner twice stamped on her head and fractured her nose, a court was told.

Jason Charles, aged 41, assaulted his ex-partner following a night of drinking at her residence in Great Yarmouth, resulting in visible injuries including bruising, two black eyes, and a broken nose.

Prosecutor Danielle O'Donovan stated that Charles initially began punching the woman, and once she was on the ground, he proceeded to stamp on her head.

According to Ms.

O'Donovan, the victim tried to escape into a bedroom, but Charles forced the door open and punched her again in the head.

She also reported that Charles stamped on her head once more, and the assault only ceased when he saw blood on her face.

The woman was taken to hospital for medical attention, and in her statement, she expressed feeling extremely frightened, fearing for her life during the assault and believing Charles might kill her.

It was noted that the victim subsequently required surgery for her fractured nose and had lost a section of hair due to the attack.

She also experienced temporary damage to her vocal cords as a result.

The court was told that Charles had a previous conviction related to domestic assault.

He, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm on April 23 this year.

Judge Maureen Bacon sentenced him to 27 months in prison, acknowledging that both parties had been drinking but emphasizing that there was no justification for his conduct.

She described the assault as sustained and repeated, stating, "There is a harmful attitude towards women that you have." The judge added that the attack caused the victim pain, distress, and anxiety.

Furthermore, a restraining order was issued to prevent Charles from making contact with his ex-partner in the future.

Defence lawyer Michael Clare recognized the seriousness of the domestic assault but pointed out both individuals had been drinking and that an argument had escalated during the incident.
