MATTHEW PEGLER JAILED FOR TERRIFYING ASSAULT AND THREATS TO EX
Matthew Pegler, 26, admitted assaulting his ex-girlfriend, causing actual bodily harm, and three offences of harassing her.
The woman was terrified after Pegler's sustained assault where he tried to strangle her, pushed her into the kitchen, and choked her with his knees on her chest.
He also sent her threatening messages, including: "I'm going to chop your head off." Pegler accused her of cheating and made threats to burn her house down, kill her family, and said he would be "having the last laugh".
He was seen holding a meat cleaver in a threatening message.
He confessed that he over-reacted and lost control but expressed remorse.
Judge Mark Bury described the offences as serious and noted it was a sustained assault.
Pegler was jailed for three years at Grimsby Crown Court and given an indefinite restraining order, with additional threats made via numerous calls and messages.
