CAT KILLER FROM GRIMSBY GETS HEAVY SENTENCE FOR ABUSE
The six-month-old kitten, named Stirling, died as a result of multiple injuries sustained during at least three separate episodes of physical abuse.According to the RSPCA, Wilcock initially contacted a veterinarian for guidance and, when he brought the kitten in for emergency care, it was found “already dead with a large amount of blood at the mouth” along with rib fractures.
Concerns arose after reports indicated the cat had previously received treatment in November 2023 for injuries allegedly caused by a fall, leading to the case being referred to the RSPCA.
An autopsy revealed repeated trauma, including multiple fractures that occurred over different periods, as well as signs of attempted suffocation.
Both Hawksworth, with connections to Worksop in Nottinghamshire, and Wilcock, linked to Barnsley, denied causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal but were found guilty following a trial.
During the hearing, it was noted in mitigation that Wilcock was experiencing “health issues and was immature.” After the verdict, RSPCA Chief Inspector Tom Hutton commented: “The conduct in this case displayed incredible cruelty toward a defenseless creature.
“It is heartbreaking that Stirling was so young when he died and had to endure such avoidable pain and suffering during his brief life.”
