TEEN GIRL SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BY FIFE MALE IN EDINBURGH FLAT AS SHE SLEEPS OFF DRINKING SESSION
A teenage girl was sexually assaulted by a man after she had been drinking and was put to bed by friends.
Matthew Lindsay, aged 22, committed the assault in a Leith flat following a drinking session.
The victim, aged 19, was allegedly sick and had only her top half of clothing on when Lindsay carried out the attack.
Lindsay became intoxicated during the incident and was allowed to sleep next to the girl.
A friend later found Lindsay had stripped off his shorts and boxers, and a forensic test confirmed DNA from the victim was on his clothing.
Lindsay appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the girl while she was "asleep, intoxicated and incapable of giving or withholding consent." Sheriff Norman McFadyen deferred sentence until October and ordered Lindsay to be placed on the sex offenders’ register.
