Serial phone pest A serial phone pest has narrowly avoided a jail sentence for making threatening calls to his former partner after they broke up.
Stephen Paterson, 47, of Kirkburn Drive, Cardenden, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court to be sentenced for his latest offences.
He has a long history of making nuisance calls when drunk, often to the emergency services.
This time, he admitted that on June 3 at Blairhall he left numerous voicemails repeatedly insulting, swearing and causing fear and alarm.
Between July 2 and 5, he again repeatedly left voicemail messages, in which he shouted, swore and acted aggressively.
He was breaching bail conditions by contacting his former partner each time.
Sheriff Paul Ralph said: “He’s got a lengthy record.
He gets drunk, he makes phone calls.
“He’s had all these chances in the past but they’ve not made any difference.” Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said: “He knows he’s in the last chance saloon.” The sheriff told Paterson he had come close to being sent to jail but imposed a community payback order with 240 hours of unpaid work and a two-year non-harassment order.
