NELSON MAN GETS COMMUNITY ORDER AFTER THREATENING EX WITH DEATH OVER CANAL
A man named Matthew Dickinson, aged 29 and residing on Newfield Drive in Nelson, was involved in a violent assault against his former partner.
The incident occurred along the canal near Halifax Road in Brierfield after they had met for a reconciliation.
According to the court reports, Dickinson chased his ex-partner down the canal bank, caught her, and then laughed as he stood over her.
He proceeded to push her down the banking and held her head over the water, threatening to kill her.
The victim was so frightened that she wet herself during the ordeal.
Dickinson pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to a community order with a two-year duration, including a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 135 hours of unpaid work.
He was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation, a £95 victim surcharge, and £200 in court costs.
A restraining order was issued for two years, prohibiting any contact with the victim.
