MONTROSE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD ABUSE AND INDECENT IMAGES
A man from Dundee engaged in an inappropriate online conversation with an undercover police officer, believing he was speaking to an 11-year-old girl.
Martyn Turnbull used the username ‘ILIKEURLOOK’ on Chat Avenue before shifting the inappropriate exchanges to Snapchat.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Turnbull complimented the purported girl on her appearance and expressed interest in girls of similar age.
Law enforcement traced IP addresses linked to him, leading to a raid at his home on Benvie Road.
Officers confiscated two mobile phones and discovered numerous images of child exploitation, mostly categorized as Category C.
Turnbull, who currently resides on Westwood Walk in Montrose, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor and to downloading indecent images of children, crimes committed between October 3 and 5, 2025.
Sheriff James Williamson sentenced him to three years of supervision, ordered him to complete 225 hours of community service, and mandated participation in the Moving Forward to Change programme for sex offenders, along with strict restrictions on contact with minors and device access.
He will remain on the sex offenders register for five years.
