MAN DENIES ABUSE OF GIRL IN LOWESTOFT
AN ALLEGED paedophile punched a Suffolk schoolgirl in the face when she threatened to tell her family that he had been sexually abusing her, a court has been told.The alleged victim told a jury at Ipswich Crown Court that she was sexually assaulted by Martin Calver on a number of occasions when she was a teenager living in Lowestoft.
She said that when she threatened to tell her family what Calver was doing to her he said no-one would believe her and on one occasion had punched her in the face.
She said she had subsequently explained her black eye to her family and school by saying she had fallen over.
Calver, 49, formerly of Lowestoft, but now living at Deneside, Great Yarmouth, has denied five offences of indecently assaulting the girl and two offences of child cruelty relating to physical violence allegedly used by Calver towards the girl and another schoolgirl.
After his arrest Calver denied the allegations and described them as 'rubbish and utter trash'.
The trial continues today.
