BILLINGHAM SEX ABUSER JAILED FOR 15 YEARS AFTER GROOMING TEENAGE GIRL
A man named Mark Norman Goring has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for persistently raping and sexually abusing a teenage girl.
He was convicted on 12 charges, including rape, sexual activity with a child, and inciting sexual acts, committed over several years from when the girl was 14 to nearly 18 years old.
Goring, aged 40 and from Billingham, had no prior convictions before his four-day trial.
The judge described his actions as systematic and persistent, stating that he 'preyed upon her innocence.' During the sentencing, the judge emphasized the gross abuse of a vulnerable young woman and noted that Goring's behavior has left her with difficulty forming relationships and a loss of trust.
Goring was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and is banned from unsupervised contact or work with children under 18.
The victim's Victim Impact Statement revealed that she now struggles to trust others after the abuse.
Goring has been placed on suicide watch in prison, and social services have restricted his contact with his own children.
Cleveland Police commented that the sentence reflects the seriousness of his crimes and that such predators will be prosecuted.
The case highlights the importance of reporting abuse, as the victim's courage in coming forward was crucial to securing the conviction.
