SEX OFFENDER GRANDAD WHO HID LAPTOP FROM POLICE WALKS OUT OF COURT
A 70-year-old from Billingham has been summoned back to court after breaching his sex offender court order.
Maurice Eddy was convicted of child sex offences two years ago and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order controlling his internet use.
The court was told Eddy sent a sex act photo to an undercover police officer posing as a young boy online, and made sexual comments about what he wanted to do.
In November 2024, detectives found a Lenovo laptop under his bed during a home search.
Eddy claimed he had owned the laptop since his previous offences began in 2022, stating, 'hopefully there is nothing illegal on it.' He pleaded guilty to breaching his sexual harm prevention order.
Eddy was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court, with the judge noting that sending the laptop for forensic analysis was pending, meaning further offenses could not yet be confirmed.
The court acknowledged Eddy had completed unpaid work and rehabilitation, but recognized more education was needed.
He received a two-year supervisory order, 35 rehabilitation days, and was ordered to pay £150 in court costs.
