MARK MITCHELL SENTENCED IN TAMWORTH FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON GIRL UNDER 13
On the 12th of April, 2024, Mark Mitchell, a 53-year-old resident of Orton Road in Warton, was formally sentenced at Warwick Crown Court to serve a prison term of 21 months. The charges against him involved the sexual assault of a young girl under the age of 13, as well as inciting another girl to engage in sexual activity.
The court's decision also included the imposition of a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a ten-year restraining order, both designed to restrict Mitchell's contact with minors and prevent any further offenses.
Additionally, Mitchell will be required to register as a sex offender, a measure that will entail ongoing monitoring and reporting obligations.
These legal actions stem from an incident that occurred on the 24th of March, 2019.
On that day, at approximately 5 pm, law enforcement officers received a report detailing inappropriate conduct by Mitchell.
It was alleged that he had inappropriately touched a 12-year-old girl’s groin area, an assault that reportedly lasted around 15 minutes.
The victim, overwhelmed and frightened, reached out to a friend in the early hours of that same day via messaging, expressing her distress.
She sent messages saying, “Scared, need to tell you, can’t even tell mum,” and “Mark sexually abused me,” indicating her fear and the severity of what had happened.
Following these messages, the friend’s mother was informed, and she, in turn, contacted the girl’s parents.
The girl initially hesitated to disclose the incident to her parents, fearing that doing so might cause trouble for Mitchell.
However, she eventually confided in her parents about the assault.
Once informed, her parents promptly contacted the police to report the incident, leading to an investigation that culminated in Mitchell’s arrest and subsequent conviction.
The court’s ruling reflects the seriousness of the offenses and the need to protect vulnerable minors from such predatory behavior.
