MARK GOHERY OF CONSETT FACES SENTENCING IN NEWCASTLE COURT OVER CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
Mark Gohery, 53, of Sherburn Terrace, Consett, County Durham, was found to be in possession of over 5,000 indecent images of children along with more than 1,400 videos. Many of these images and videos were classified as the most severe categories. Gohery appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court this week, where he faced three counts of creating indecent images. The offences date back to January 13, 2021, and were committed in Lemington.During his court appearance, Gohery pleaded guilty to the charges. Due to the seriousness of the offences, his case was referred to Newcastle Crown Court for sentencing, which is scheduled for next month.
He admitted to possessing 317 still images and 785 videos in Category A; 426 still images and 609 videos in Category B; and 4,555 still images and 51 videos in Category C. Following his conviction, Gohery is now required to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutor Brian Payne told the magistrates that the case should be moved to the Crown Court because magistrates' sentencing powers were insufficient for the gravity of the offences. The magistrates agreed, and Gohery was released on bail while awaiting sentencing.
A pre-sentence report has been ordered, and Gohery’s sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10.
