RAPIST CONVICTED OF ATTEMPTED MURDER JAILED FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS
Following his trial in April, Macauley Worden was convicted on charges of attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, and robbery.
He was sentenced to 34 years in prison during his court appearance at Leicester Crown Court.
The incident happened on the early morning of August 30 last year along a canal towpath close to Belton Road, Loughborough, where he pushed his victim to the ground and assaulted them with multiple punches.
Worden then committed sexual assault and rape, and attempted to choke the victim during the attack.
Afterwards, he escaped from the scene with their mobile phone and wallet.
Three days after the attack, on September 3, Worden was located sleeping in a tent about a mile from the site of the incident.
He was identified as having no fixed abode.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was subject to a restraining order preventing any form of contact with the victim.
