LISA/STUART MESSER INVOLVED IN SHOCKING BABY DEATH IN ROCHESTER

In December of the previous year, a tragic incident unfolded within a home in Rochester, Kent, resulting in the death of a 15-month-old girl named Emily Messer.

Despite the absence of formal charges, a coroner has officially recorded an unlawful killing verdict in relation to her death, highlighting the severity and suspicion surrounding the case.

Emily Messer suffered fatal injuries consistent with 'shaken baby syndrome,' a condition caused when a young child's head is violently twisted and decelerated, leading to severe damage to blood vessels in the brain.

The inquest revealed that her death occurred while only her parents, Lisa and Stuart Messer, along with two other children, were present in the household.

The circumstances of her final hours remain unclear, as neither parent provided detailed accounts of what transpired between the time they put the children to bed at approximately 7:30 pm on December 18 and the discovery of Emily's lifeless body the following morning at around 8:30 am.

During the proceedings at Mid-Kent and Medway Coroners' Court, coroner Roger Sykes delivered a verdict of unlawful killing.

He stated, "It was obvious to the perpetrator that harm would be caused and that such action was therefore both unlawful and dangerous, even though the fact that she thereby lost her life was a matter of in-advertency as opposed to intent." The coroner also noted that the issue was complex and sensitive, suggesting it should be addressed in a different legal setting.

Pathologist Peter Jerreat, representing the Home Office, testified that Emily died due to brain damage.

He emphasized that her death was not accidental, stating, "This could not have been the result of over vigorous handling.

There would have been immediate noticeable effects, possibly drowsiness or unconsciousness and limpness.

It would have been something that I do not think you could disregard." His testimony reinforced suspicions that her injuries were inflicted intentionally or through severe neglect.

Following the inquest, Detective Inspector Dave Withers commented on the case, describing it as a tragic loss.

He stated, "This is a tragic death of a 15-month-old baby.

If any further evidence is forthcoming, the investigation will be continued." The case remains open, with authorities continuing to seek additional information that might shed light on the circumstances leading to Emily Messer's death, and whether any charges will ultimately be brought against her parents or others involved.
