FALKIRK SEX OFFENDER LIAM WEIR ESCAPES JAIL AFTER ATTACK ON SLEEPING WOMAN

A convicted sex offender from Falkirk has narrowly avoided incarceration despite committing a disturbing assault on a sleeping woman and causing extensive damage to a private residence. The incident has sparked outrage among victims and the wider community, who view the outcome as a significant failure of the justice system.

Liam Kevin Weir, a man with strong ties to Maddiston, Westquarter, and Stirling, was found guilty of sexual assault following the discovery of DNA evidence on the clothing of his victim. The assault was interrupted by witnesses who intervened and prevented the situation from escalating further, potentially averting a more tragic outcome.

The 20-year-old offender was sentenced to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of 12 months. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. Many members of the public and victims' advocates have expressed their shock and disappointment at what they consider a shockingly lenient punishment, especially given Weir’s prior history of violence and criminal behavior.

Weir’s background reveals a troubling pattern of violence and manipulation. He previously attended Stirling College, where he studied joinery, and was employed by a family-run business, Alcove Joinery. His criminal record dates back to when he was just 16 years old, when he was charged with a serious assault after nearly killing a man in his 30s during a brutal street attack. Despite these serious charges, Weir has repeatedly avoided imprisonment, allegedly employing a tactic of threatening self-harm to sway authorities into leniency—a strategy that victims believe he uses to manipulate the justice system.

One victim, speaking exclusively to the Daily Record, expressed her frustration and concern: “He’s a danger to society, but the courts won’t jail him because he plays the mental health card. Meanwhile, his victims are left to pick up the pieces.”

Currently, Weir is reported to be in a relationship with a woman named Caitlin McCaffery. However, sources close to the case suggest that she may not be fully aware of the extent of his criminal past. There are also concerns regarding his registered address, which is listed at his grandmother’s house, although his recent movements imply he might not actually be living there.

Authorities became aware of Weir’s potential risk through Claire’s Law, a legal provision that allows individuals to request information about a partner’s history of violence. Despite this, he remains at large in the Falkirk and Stirling areas, serving his community service instead of facing more substantial consequences for his crimes.

Victims and community members are now demanding a more rigorous response from the justice system. They fear that if Weir is allowed to continue his current trajectory, he may re-offend, causing further harm. “We did everything right—we reported him, there was DNA evidence, witnesses, a criminal history—and yet, he walks free. The justice system failed us,” one victim lamented.

The case highlights a broader concern about the effectiveness of the justice process in dealing with repeat offenders, especially those involved in sexual and violent crimes. As Weir remains free in Falkirk and Stirling, many question whether this is a failure of justice or a second chance wrongly granted. Victims and advocates worry that unless the system is reformed, more individuals like Weir may continue to pose a threat to society.
