CORBY MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A 38-year-old man from Corby, Liam Paul McKinnon, has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison after admitting to creating and possessing indecent images of children.The incident began in July when McKinnon interacted online via a file-sharing network with an individual he believed to be an adult interested in minors.
During this interaction, he transmitted an inappropriate video of a child sourced online alongside explicit images of children that he personally captured.
McKinnon expressed a desire to exchange more photographs and considered the possibility of contact offending but deemed it 'too risky.' Unbeknownst to him, his conversation partner was a police officer.
He was arrested on July 18 in Corby and charged with multiple offences, including making and distributing indecent images of children, taking indecent images of children, and voyeurism.
During police interviews, he became highly volatile, threatening violence if officers continued reading the transcript of his online chat, which led to the interview being cut short.
McKinnon pleaded guilty to all charges at Northampton Crown Court on August 30 and was sentenced last week (October 11).
Detective Constable Abi Jones from Northamptonshire Police's Online Child Abuse Investigation Unit commented, 'I am pleased to see Liam Paul McKinnon sent to prison and hope it provides the victims with some closure, although no sentence can undo the violation they felt.
He has proven to be a predatory and dangerous offender with genuine intent to sexually abuse children, and now he is behind bars.' Authorities emphasize their proactive approach to combating online child abuse, working tirelessly to identify and prosecute offenders like McKinnon.
