NEWTOWN MAN ADMITS MAKING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN

A NEWTOWN man has admitted multiple charges of making indecent images of children and has been told he will be sentenced at the crown court.

Liam O’Shaughnessy, 34, appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 12, where he entered guilty pleas to all four charges put to him.

O’Shaughnessy, of Heather Close, Newtown, admitted making 21 indecent images of a child of a Category A nature – the most serious kind.

He also admitted making nine indecent images of a child of a Category B nature; and eight indecent images of a child of a Category C nature.

All offending took place in Newtown between February 2, 2019, and May 1, 2023.

A fourth charge, of possessing a prohibited image of a child, occurred on May 3, 2023.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said police executed a search warrant at the defendant’s address in May last year, where two computers were seized and linked to O’Shaughnessy via his email address.

“Images were found, both still and moving,” said Mrs Tench.

“A large number of indecent images were inaccessible.

Searches included ‘11 and 10-year-old’.

“The prohibited image was found on the second device.

In interview he said he had last looked at images three days ago, and had looked at videos about a week ago.” Mrs Tench said the case should be sent to the crown court for sentence, an opinion shared by Gurleen Kaur, who was representing O’Shaughnessy.

Ms Kaur asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Magistrates agreed and told O’Shaughnessy he will be sentenced at Mold Crown Court, where he is due to appear on December 5.

He was granted unconditional bail until that date but was told, as a result of his guilty pleas, that he is now subject to notification requirements; this means he must report to Newtown Police Station to sign the sex offender’s register within three days.
