COLNE MAN FINED FOR BREACHING PROTECTIVENESS ORDER VIA WHATSAPP
Liam O'Connor, aged 32 and residing in Spring Yard, Colne, was found guilty in Blackburn magistrates for breaching a non-molestation order by sending forbidden WhatsApp messages to his former partner.
The messages were an attempt to arrange access to his child.
The prosecution, represented by Sazeeda Ismail, explained that the former partner had taken screenshots of the messages and forwarded them to the police.
The court noted that while it was a deliberate breach, no harm or distress was caused.
O'Connor's defense lawyer, David Leach, stated that his client had made significant efforts to facilitate child access, which had been ignored, and that the messages were sent in a moment of desperation.
He also added that there have been no further breaches since June.
O'Connor pleaded guilty to the breach and was fined £170, with additional costs and surcharge.
