LIAM MANN FROM AMMANFORD AND ST CLEARS SENTENCED FOR GROSSELY SICK ACTS AGAINST 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN SWANSEA
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Ammanford and St Clears, Liam Mann, a 24-year-old man, was sentenced to four years in prison following his heinous actions against a 14-year-old girl. The incident took place in September and involved Mann luring the young girl out for a run in the countryside near Ammanford, under the guise of a fitness activity.According to court proceedings, Mann had previously convinced both the girl and her mother that he was genuinely interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, which led to the girl agreeing to go on a run with him. On the day of the incident, Mann, dressed in jogging attire, met the girl at her home in Ammanford and they set out together for what was supposed to be a routine exercise session.
However, the situation took a sinister turn when Mann exposed himself to the girl while they were out in the rural area. The court heard that Mann continued to display his genitals for up to 15 minutes, jogging close to her and even encouraging her to touch him, which caused the girl to become visibly distressed. The judge, Paul Thomas QC, described Mann’s conduct as “grotesquely sick,” emphasizing the severity of his actions.
Prosecutor Brian Simpson explained that the girl, overwhelmed and frightened, managed to escape by running away from Mann. She returned home visibly upset and unable to explain what had happened until Mann appeared again a few minutes later. Once she was able to speak clearly, she informed her mother, who promptly contacted the police. Law enforcement officers launched an immediate search for Mann, who subsequently handed himself in to the authorities in St Clears, near Carmarthen.
During police interviews, Mann admitted to his misconduct. Further investigations revealed that Mann had also made more serious admissions regarding the sexual abuse of a younger child, with whom he had ongoing access over a period of time. Mann was charged with and pleaded guilty to one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, as well as a count of sexual assault on a minor. He was found not guilty of another similar charge.
Judge Paul Thomas QC addressed Mann’s actions during sentencing, stating, “You asked her to go with you running, which she did, no doubt believing she was safe to do so. She put her trust in you, as did her family. It was not the first time you took her out for a run; in my view, there was an element of grooming or at least planning involved.”
As part of his sentence, Mann was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was subjected to an indefinite sex offenders prevention order. The court’s decision underscores the gravity of his crimes and the breach of trust involved, leaving a lasting impact on the victim and the wider community of Ammanford and St Clears.
