WOMAN CONVICTED OF MURDERED HER MOTHER'S PARTNER IN WALES
Maxine Williams, a 22-year-old woman, has been sentenced to serve at least 13 years of a life sentence after being convicted by a jury of murdering Bernard Evans at his home in Ammanford. She had attacked Mr Evans with a knife, stabbing him in the chest and arm, leading to his death due to a severed artery.
Williams refused to attend Swansea Crown Court for sentencing, which occurred a day after her conviction.
Judge Mr Justice Nigel Davis stated that she had not shown any remorse and had falsely blamed her mother before the trial, accusing her 16-year-old brother of lying to the police.
The judge described her as a 'sad, damaged and vulnerable person' suffering from depression post-childbirth and indicated he did not believe she intended to kill Mr Evans.
The trial had revealed that Williams attacked Mr Evans in his home, with the jury hearing that she stabbed him in the chest and arm at his residence in Pantyffynnon Road on 22 January.
The injuries caused a severed artery leading to his death by bleeding in the kitchen.
She was a mother of a young baby and lived in Pembrey at the time of the incident.
After the sentencing, Dyfed-Powys Police expressed their commitment to justice, with Det Ch Insp Richard Evans commenting about the investigation and the impact on Mr Evans's family.
The police reassured the public that such incidents are rare in the area and emphasized their efforts to maintain safety.
