HIGHLAND MAN SPARED JAIL AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF SEX OFFENCE AGAINST GIRL
A 22-year-old man from Dingwall, employed as a scaffolder, avoided imprisonment after being convicted of a serious sexual assault involving a nine-year-old girl.
The jury, delivering a majority decision via video link, reached its verdict following a three-day trial at Inverness Sheriff Court.
Morrison denied the charges, which alleged that on March 18, 2018, at an address in Inverness, he entered the girl’s bedroom during a gathering, removed her bedclothes, and touched her genitals while she was naked.
He also attempted to pull down her pyjama bottoms and covered her mouth to prevent her from calling for help.
The girl suffered a minor injury near her eye.
Sheriff Sara Matheson sentenced Morrison to 300 hours of unpaid community service, three years of supervised social work, and ordered him to register as a sex offender for the same duration.
Morrison was visibly emotional when the verdict was announced, and it was noted that he had recently become a father and was employed as a deer fencing contractor.
