DINGWALL MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER ALCOHOL-FUELED CHRISTMAS DAY ROW
A husband was so unhappy with his wife’s Christmas present he threw it in the bin and shouted and swore at her.Inverness Sheriff Court was told that the Christmas Day dispute occurred in the evening after 54-year-old Ian Campbell, of Burns Crescent, Dingwall, had spent most of the day drinking.Defence solicitor advocate Neil Wilson explained that his client, who works in technical services for police and ambulance, had not drunk alcohol for a year prior to Christmas Day, and had consumed alcohol for the first time in that period.Fiscal depute Ruraidh Allison stated that Campbell followed his wife from room to room, continuing with threatening or abusive behavior. As a result, the police were called and he was apprehended.‘He can’t do it himself going cold turkey’Mr Wilson added that Campbell had spent two nights in custody and had reflected on his actions.
He confessed fully to the police and expressed regret for his conduct.
He acknowledged having an underlying problem with alcohol, which he had been trying to manage in the past, and admitted he had not consumed alcohol for a year until Christmas Day.He is committed to seeking further assistance once released, as he cannot quit Cold Turkey alone.
He has no previous convictions and maintains a responsible job.Sheriff Cruickshank told Campbell that no further punishment was necessary, but admonished him, meaning while the conviction remains on record, he will not face additional sentences.
