DINGWALL MAN JAILED FOR DOG ABUSE AND ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER
A man, Dylan Rowlands, refused to leash his powerful Cane Corso dog during a police confrontation and claimed it had "the strongest bite".When officers responded to reports of a disturbance at a property in Dingwall around 2am on July 12 last year, Rowlands was found with his face "covered in blood" and a large Cane Corso dog.
Despite being asked to control the dog, he initially found a lead, but then began shouting and swearing at officers, stating that his dog had "the strongest bite known".
He was warned to go home but disobeyed, releasing the dog to roam freely while verbally abusing officers, calling them "c***s".
He was eventually handcuffed, thrashing his legs, threatening officers, and falsely claiming he had HIV.
Rowlands was taken to the police station where he required a spit hood and leg restraints.
The next morning, he apologized, explaining he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and felt ashamed.
Subsequently, at his ex-partner's home, he assaulted her by punching her repeatedly, grabbing her hair, and threatening to stab her as she tried to flee.
He also kicked a door in an attempt to enter her house.
The court heard that Rowlands was heavily under the influence during the offenses.
His solicitor stated he has since engaged with recovery programs.
The sheriff sentenced Rowlands to 12 months in jail, backdated to July 15 of the previous year, for breach of the peace, resisting officers, assault, and threatening behavior.
