MAN THREATENED TO STAB PREGNANT PARTNER AT HER SUFFOLK HOME
A man who picked up a kitchen knife and threatened to stab his pregnant partner in the stomach during a row at her Suffolk home has been jailed for 30 months.
Ipswich Crown Court heard that during the incident in Lowestoft earlier this year, Lewis Copping punched the woman in the face causing her to lose consciousness, kicked her legs, threw her in a bath and squeezed her neck leaving her gasping for breath.
Copping, 30, of no fixed address, admitted two offences of assault causing actual bodily harm, non-fatal intentional strangulation and threatening the victim with a knife.
In addition to being jailed he was banned from contacting the victim.
Sentencing him, Judge Nicola Talbot-Hadley said the incident must have been terrifying for his partner.
'You have to learn not to treat your partners like this,' said the judge.
Prosecutor Simon Gladwell mentioned that the violence started on April 24 after Copping woke up from a nap in a bad mood and told his partner to get him a bowl of cereal, then complained that it hadn’t been washed properly and smelled of tomato soup.
