LEWIS BROWNE FROM PONTYPOOL SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGE OFFENSES IN CARDIFF
In December 2020, Lewis Browne, a 29-year-old resident of Glenview Road, Trevethin, Pontypool, faced serious legal consequences after being found guilty of possessing and downloading child abuse images. The case was heard at Cardiff Crown Court, where the prosecution outlined the disturbing extent of Browne's offenses.Prosecutor Byron Broadstock revealed that Browne had engaged in the illegal activity over a period spanning from November 15, 2017, to June 17, 2019. During this time, he downloaded hundreds of indecent images of children, including 81 pictures classified as Category A, which represent the most severe form of child abuse imagery. These images are considered the most serious due to their explicit and harmful content.
Lewis Browne pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. In addition to these charges, he admitted to possessing a prohibited image of a child and possessing extreme pornography. The court was informed that Browne's actions were not isolated incidents but part of a sustained pattern of illegal activity involving highly disturbing material.
Judge Michael Fitton QC addressed Browne directly during the sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of his offenses. He stated, “You have a problem with paedophilic material. Unless you deal with this, it will ruin your life.” The judge made it clear that Browne's behavior posed a significant risk to the safety and well-being of children and that intervention was necessary.
As part of his sentence, Browne was ordered to attend 35 sessions of the Horizon sex offender rehabilitation program, aimed at addressing his offending behavior. He was sentenced to eight months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years, allowing him to avoid immediate incarceration provided he complies with the court's conditions.
Furthermore, Browne was required to complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and was mandated to register as a sex offender until the year 2030. A sexual harm prevention order was also imposed, restricting his activities and contact for the next ten years to protect the community.
In addition to the custodial and registration requirements, Browne was ordered to pay prosecution costs of £535 and a victim surcharge of £140. The court's decision underscores the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing measures to prevent further harm.
