SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR BREACHING ORDER 7 TIMES
A sex offender failed to notify police that he was homeless in the Burnley area on a weekly basis.Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Leon Slattery was put on the sex offender register indefinitely following a conviction in 2002.
The court was told the latest breach was his seventh.
Slattery, 38, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notification requirements.
He was jailed for 20 weeks.
District Judge Alexandra Preston said Slattery was well aware of what was required and knew the consequences of failing to sign in when he was homeless.
"You have done it so many times before," said District Judge Preston.
David Lawson, offering mitigation, said his client had difficulties with accommodation for many years.
"He has been living on the streets and accepts that he last signed in with the police at the end of August," said Mr Lawson.
"He has indicated to me this morning that he might as well go to prison because there is nowhere else for him to go.
"The police knew where to find him when they wanted to arrest him."
