DOMESTIC ABUSER FLEEING OBAN FACES LONG ARM OF THE LAW
Lee Markham, aged 33, has been involved in a legal case concerning breach of court orders related to domestic abuse.
Originally sentenced to 262 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to assaulting his partner by actions such as seizing her by the neck, compressing it, and pushing her out of a room, causing her injury.
The incident took place on June 14, 2024, near Java, Craignure on the Isle of Mull.
Despite his sentence, Markham failed to complete his unpaid work, moving from his given address at the Isle of Eriska hotel near Benderloch to Jersey without informing social workers and not attending the scheduled community service.
He was eventually located and arrested for breaching the court order.
The court was angered by his actions, with Sheriff Cameron stating, "How dare you fail to prioritise this order," and warning that if he breaches the order again, he would face a 12-month jail sentence.
Markham, who now resides in Windermere with his pregnant girlfriend, accepted his breach but was fined £640—comprising £600 for the breach and a £40 victim surcharge—and ordered to restart his community service.
His case has been moved to an English court in Windermere for further proceedings.
