LEA MULROONEY FROM BOLTON AND TONGE MOOR JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In a serious case that has shocked the local communities of Bolton and Tonge Moor, Lea Mulrooney has been sentenced to a two-year prison term after being found guilty of possessing and creating indecent images of children. The incident came to light following a police investigation into the use of the GigaTribe internet service, which is known to be exploited by individuals involved in illegal activities, including the distribution of child abuse material.According to court proceedings, Lea Mulrooney, aged 42 and residing on Glaisdale Street in Tonge Moor, was identified as the individual responsible for downloading highly disturbing and extreme images depicting children as young as four years old. Mulrooney claimed that he had downloaded these images while under the influence of medication prescribed for mental health issues. He stated that once the effects of the medication subsided, he realized the gravity of his actions and subsequently deleted the files from his device.
The police raid on Mulrooney’s residence in Radcliffe took place in July of the previous year. Officers, investigating the use of GigaTribe by paedophiles, confiscated his laptop during the search. Although Mulrooney insisted that he had deleted the illegal images, forensic experts were able to recover a total of 239 illicit images from his device. This evidence was crucial in establishing his guilt in the case.
During the court hearing, prosecutor Jane Dagnall outlined the details of the case, emphasizing the severity of the images involved. Mulrooney faced multiple charges, including one count of possessing indecent images of children and 19 counts of making indecent photographs. His guilty plea was entered in relation to these charges, leading to his sentencing.
Defense attorney Michael Lea addressed the court, highlighting the personal consequences Mulrooney had faced as a result of his actions. He explained that Mulrooney’s involvement in the dark web, fueled by alcohol and drugs, had led him down a dangerous path that ultimately resulted in his arrest and court appearance. Lea also noted that Mulrooney had lost contact with his family, underscoring the social and personal toll of his criminal behavior.
Judge Peter Davies sentenced Lea Mulrooney to two years in prison. Additionally, he ordered Mulrooney to be registered on the sex offenders’ register, a measure that will have lasting implications for his future. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child abuse images, and the serious penalties faced by those involved.
