2016: SON JAILED FOR ATTACKING MUM'S NEW BOYFRIEND JUST WEEKS AFTER DAD DIES
At Bolton Crown Court, it was revealed that 21-year-old Layton Short and his 22-year-old accomplice Ainsley Booth assaulted Jonathan Burbidge to such an extent that he suffered a fractured nose and cheekbone.
The incident was sparked by Short's anger over Burbidge entering into a relationship with his mother, Gaynor Rothwell, shortly after Short's father passed away on May 11 of the previous year.
During the attack, Short attacked Mr.
Burbidge with a spade, hitting him across the forehead, while both men used weapons to deliver further blows.
Both defendants admitted to causing grievous bodily harm and each received a sentence of two years and four months in prison.
The court acknowledged Short’s mental health issues, his remorse, and his willingness to seek counseling, as well as noting Booth’s clean criminal record and his feelings of loyalty.
