EX-LABOUR MP IVOR CAPLIN ARRESTED IN HOVE PAEDOPHILE STING

A former Member of Parliament from the Labour Party has been taken into custody following a police operation targeting online child exploitation. The arrest took place in Hove, Sussex, and has garnered significant attention after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.

According to Sussex Police, a 66-year-old man was detained on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a minor. The police confirmed that the arrest occurred on Saturday, January 11, and that the individual remains in custody as the investigation continues. The footage circulating online shows a man, dressed in a black trench coat and a red cap, being restrained by officers. During the arrest, police officers are seen confiscating the man's mobile phone and placing it into an evidence bag, indicating the collection of digital evidence for further examination.

In a statement, a police spokesperson addressed the circulating footage, saying, "We are aware of footage circulating on social media showing a man in Brighton being detained on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child. Officers can confirm that a local 66-year-old man was arrested on Saturday January 11 and currently remains in custody. This is an ongoing and active investigation."

It is important to note that the individual in question, identified as Ivor Caplin, has denied all allegations made against him. Caplin, who previously served as the Labour MP representing Hove from 1997 until 2005, was suspended from the Labour Party in May 2024 amid serious allegations that he has publicly denied. His political career included roles such as assistant Government whip, junior defence minister, and Minister for Veterans at the Ministry of Defence.

Caplin's suspension from Labour in May 2024 marked the end of his official party membership, although he had previously been a prominent figure in the political landscape of Hove. The investigation remains active, and authorities continue to gather evidence as they work to determine the full scope of the case.
