KYRON JENKINS FROM PONTYPOOL JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 15-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL IN CARDIFF
In a case that has shocked the local community of Pontypool and the wider Cardiff area, Kyron Jenkins, a man in his late twenties, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a 15-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in October 2018, culminated in a three-day trial at Cardiff Crown Court, where Jenkins faced serious charges related to his interactions with the underage girl.Jenkins, who resides at Ty Newydd in Pontypool, had initially denied six counts of sexual activity with a minor. However, the jury ultimately convicted him on three of those charges after considering the evidence presented during the proceedings. The prosecution, led by Nicholas Gareth Jones, presented compelling evidence, including a video recording of the girl’s police interview. In that interview, the young complainant explicitly stated, “He knew my age so it was his fault not mine,” indicating her awareness of her own age at the time of the incident.
During cross-examination, Jenkins’ defense lawyer, Marianne Lewis, questioned the girl about her honesty regarding her age. She asked, “You told him you were 16, didn’t you?” to which the girl responded, “No. I told him I was 15.” Miss Lewis further inquired whether the girl was associating with older individuals, and the girl confirmed, “Yes, but I told him I was 15.” The defense also suggested that the girl’s appearance and manner of dress, including heavy makeup, might have given the impression that she was older than her actual age. Nonetheless, the girl maintained that she had informed Jenkins she was under 16.
The court heard that Jenkins and the girl first met at a house in Newport, where drug use was reported to be taking place. Jenkins admitted to having sexual relations with the girl but claimed that he believed she was 19 at the time. When asked by his defense counsel if he had inquired about her age, Jenkins stated, “She told me she was 19 back at my flat.” He also insisted, “I tell the truth,” emphasizing his belief that he was not aware of her true age.
Jenkins further disclosed to police that he had used drugs such as cocaine and amphetamine around the time of the alleged offenses, claiming that he used these substances to boost his confidence. The jury also reviewed Jenkins’ police interview following his arrest on suspicion of rape, during which he described his initial meeting with the girl at the Newport house, saying, “She was looking at me like she wanted me.”
Ultimately, Judge Richard Twomlow sentenced Kyron Jenkins to four years in prison, reflecting the seriousness of the crimes committed and the court’s stance on protecting minors from sexual exploitation. The case has drawn significant attention in the Pontypool community and highlights ongoing concerns about safeguarding young people from predatory behavior.
