WOMAN BANNED FROM KEEPING ANIMALS FOR LIFE CAUGHT WITH DOGS
A WOMAN flouted a lifetime ban from keeping animals by looking after two dogs and housing them with mats soaked in urine and faeces.Kirsten Bailey admitted breaching an order imposed by Derby Magistrates' Court which disqualifies her from participating in keeping animals during her lifetime.
Bailey, 44, who represented herself at Greenock Sheriff Court, told Sheriff Anthony McGeehan that she believed an appeal of the order had been successful, and that she was able to look after the animals, which belonged to her partner.
The procurator fiscal depute told the court that an SSPCA inspector attended Bailey's property.
They added: "The house was in disarray with numerous used puppy pads full of urine and faeces.
The accused stated that she was 'home alone' and was caring for the two dogs for her partner who is a long-distance lorry driver.
She believed at the time that she was not breaking the disqualification order." The accused was arrested, cautioned and charged, and made no reply.
The animals were seized for seven days and were returned to the care of the accused's partner.
Bailey told Sheriff McGeehan that she had previously appealed the court order and took part in a video call in which she was told she could be around the dogs.
She denied that there was faeces and urine on the pads and said the dogs were 'walked on the beach all the time'.
Bailey, of Foley Park in Rothesay, added: "The dogs were in perfect health, there was nothing wrong with them.
The pads were there to protect the flooring." Sheriff McGeehan said it was Bailey's responsibility to find out more about her disqualification, and that it was not the responsibility of the police or Greenock Sheriff Court.
He fined Bailey £320.
