KILLER SON ADMITS BRUTAL MURDER OF MOTHER IN ROTHESAY ATTACK
A 40-year-old man named David McNeil admitted to a severe assault on his mother, 73-year-old Mary-Rose McNeil, at their home in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.
The court was informed that McNeil, who suffers from mental health conditions, claimed that voices in his mind commanded him to harm his mother.
During the attack, he used a metal pole to strike her and tried to remove her brain with a knife.
It was also revealed that McNeil called emergency services during the assault, stating that he had killed his mother and was hearing voices.
Police discovered Mrs.
McNeil’s body along with bloodstained weapons in the bedroom.
At the High Court in Glasgow, McNeil entered a guilty plea to culpable homicide, citing diminished responsibility as his defense.
Judge Lord Kinclaven ordered that he be detained at the State Hospital under an interim compulsory order.
The case has been postponed until January for sentencing.
