KIERAN O’CONNOR CAUGHT IN CWMBRAN: PAEDOPHILE'S PREDATORY BEHAVIOR ON FACEBOOK REVEALED
In September 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Kieran O’Connor, an 18-year-old from Thornhill, Cwmbran, who engaged in inappropriate and illegal online conduct targeting a young girl. The incident came to light during a sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court, revealing the extent of O’Connor’s predatory actions on social media.
According to court reports, O’Connor initiated contact with an 11-year-old girl by sending her a friend request on Facebook.
After the girl accepted, he immediately asked if she 'wanted a boyfriend,' a question that set the tone for the troubling exchanges that followed.
The prosecutor, Jenny Yeo, detailed how O’Connor continued to communicate with the young girl, who was clearly underage, despite her revealing her age early in the conversation.
O’Connor expressed feelings of loneliness and rejection, claiming he wanted to die because no one would date him.
He then asked the girl if she thought he was 'fit' and sent her a topless photograph of himself, along with another image that explicitly showed his genitals.
His intent was to persuade her to send similar images of herself, but the girl refused, citing her belief that she was 'ugly' and unwilling to send such pictures.
The court heard that O’Connor further attempted to manipulate the girl by asking if it was okay to show her 'something dirty,' subsequently sending an explicit photograph of his penis.
He then asked if she wanted to 'see it in person,' to which she responded that she could not meet him.
Despite her refusal, O’Connor persisted, asking for a hug and a kiss, and inquiring about her virginity and whether she had seen a penis before.
Throughout the exchanges, O’Connor repeatedly asked if they were dating, but the girl firmly told him she would not date him because he was 18, he did not know her, and she believed he should find a girl his own age.
The court emphasized the disturbing nature of his persistent requests and the clear exploitation of a vulnerable child.
O’Connor pleaded guilty to a single count of engaging in sexual communication with a child.
Addressing him in court, Judge Daniel Williams acknowledged his understanding that such behavior must not happen again, warning that any future misconduct could result in a harsher sentence.
As part of his sentence, O’Connor was handed a three-year community order.
He is required to complete 30 days of the Horizon sex offender programme, perform 120 hours of unpaid work, and pay a surcharge of £95.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the need for ongoing monitoring and intervention.
