KEVIN ROBERTS FROM LOWESTOFT SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR ABUSIVE CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
In December 2014, a disturbing case unfolded involving Kevin Roberts, a 49-year-old man from Lowestoft, who was found guilty of a series of heinous crimes committed against a vulnerable young girl.The case was brought to light after a detailed trial at Norwich Crown Court, which lasted seven days and culminated in Roberts being convicted on 19 separate charges related to sexual abuse.
Prosecutor Andrew Thompson outlined the gravity of the offenses, revealing that the abuse began when the victim was approximately 13 or 14 years old.
The allegations included rape and attempted rape, with Roberts engaging in a pattern of manipulative and controlling behavior that inflicted severe psychological trauma on the young girl.
One of the most disturbing aspects of the case was Roberts's act of filming one of the assaults on his mobile phone.
Judge Nicholas Coleman described this act as being for Roberts’s “grubby sexual self-gratification,” highlighting the depravity of his actions.
Roberts, who resided on Edgerton Road in Lowestoft, had consistently denied all the charges brought against him throughout the proceedings.
Despite his denials, the evidence presented in court was compelling enough to secure a conviction.
Judge Coleman, in his sentencing remarks, condemned Roberts’s conduct, emphasizing the manipulative and controlling nature of his behavior.
The judge also expressed concern about the long-term impact on the victim, noting that the psychological scars inflicted by Roberts’s actions would likely persist for many years.
He described the case as a “catalogue of abuse” inflicted upon a vulnerable individual, emphasizing the degradation and humiliation that Roberts subjected the girl to during the ordeal.
The judge further stated that the suffering caused by Roberts’s actions was incalculable, underscoring the profound harm done to the victim.
As a result of his conviction, Roberts was sentenced to 13 years in prison and was ordered to be placed on the sex offender’s register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public from further harm.
