KEVIN GEOFFREY THOMPSON JAILED IN WESTON-SUPER-MARE FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND SEXUAL ASSAULT

A man from Weston-super-Mare has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of serious sexual offenses and possessing a vast collection of indecent images involving children. Kevin Geoffrey Thompson, who resides on Totterdown Road in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, was convicted on multiple charges that included sexual assault and the creation, possession, and distribution of indecent images of minors.

According to reports from Avon and Somerset Police, Thompson's criminal activities spanned over a period of eight years. During this time, he accumulated thousands of indecent photographs and videos of children, with one of the category A videos estimated to be more than an hour in length. The police investigation was initiated after information was received from another law enforcement agency, prompting a search of Thompson’s residence.

During the search, authorities confiscated his mobile phone and conducted a detailed analysis. The examination revealed that Thompson possessed over 4,200 indecent images classified as category C, which indicates a significant collection of illegal material involving minors. The investigation also uncovered that Thompson had sexually assaulted a woman, an incident which he admitted to during court proceedings.

The victim, whose identity remains protected by law, provided a heartfelt impact statement during the court hearing. She described her ongoing mental health struggles, stating, “My mental health has declined, which I didn't think was further possible knowing how low I have been feeling. But I've been experiencing even more depression and anxiety, which affects me to the point I am not sleeping and constantly overthinking and continuing to not feel safe.” Her bravery in coming forward was commended by authorities, who emphasized the importance of victims speaking out regardless of how much time has passed since the incident.

At Bristol Crown Court on June 5, Thompson was sentenced to five years in prison. In addition to his incarceration, he was subjected to a series of restrictions designed to prevent further harm. These included a 10-year restraining order, an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, and a requirement to register as a sex offender. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect victims from further trauma.
