KEVEN APPO FROM HALIFAX FLEEING TO PAPUA NEW GUINEA AFTER RAPE AND ASSAULT CHARGES
In a startling development, Keven Appo, a rugby league player from Halifax who was facing serious criminal allegations, has managed to escape the United Kingdom shortly after being granted conditional bail.The charges against him include rape, sexual assault, and two counts of assault, which have sent shockwaves through the local community and the rugby league world alike.
Appo, aged 25 and formerly a player for the Bradford Bulls, appeared before Bradford Magistrates' Court on Monday, where he was granted bail under specific conditions.
The court heard that he was released at 16:00 GMT on November 26, but by 20:40 GMT that same evening, he had already boarded a flight from Manchester Airport heading to Dubai.
From there, he continued his journey to Papua New Guinea via connecting flights, effectively fleeing the country before any formal extradition process could be completed.
Prosecutor Fiona Newcombe provided details about the case, stating, "An extradition process is now under way to return Mr.
Appo to the United Kingdom to face the charges against him." She also revealed that Appo was scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on that Monday morning, but he was no longer present in the UK.
It was further noted that Appo had handed over his house and car keys to the manager of the rugby club, a move that might have been intended to comply with bail conditions, but it did not prevent his departure.
Authorities are actively working with police in Papua New Guinea to facilitate his extradition back to the UK.
